As election season comes to a close, please help us keep political yard signs out of the wrong recycling streams!
🚫 Remember! Plastic political signs do NOT belong in your curbside recycling cart, community recycling collection bins, or orange bags.
Here's how to properly recycle or dispose of your signs:
✅ First, contact your candidate or political party. Many campaigns and political party offices collect signs for reuse or proper disposal. The Douglas County Democratic Party office has confirmed it is accepting signs and metal posts.
If you cannot find a collection site, separate your sign materials:
♻️ Metal posts: Remove the metal stakes and take them to a scrap metal recycling drop-off location.
📄 Paper signs: Place paper signs in your regular mixed recycling.
🗑️ Plastic signs: Corrugated plastic signs (Coroplast) should be placed in your trash.
📣 Coordinating a political sign collection?
First Star Recycling can work with organizations conducting sign collections to coordinate bulk drop-offs of the separated materials. Please email recycling@firstarfiber.com to make arrangements.
Thank you for helping us keep our recycling streams clean and free of contamination! 🌎♻️
